Additional Incorporation Town Halls Set

Responding to several requests, leaders of the Freeland Vision 2025 Committee have started scheduling additional public meetings to discuss what Freeland should look like in the next 20 years and if incorporating into a city should be a part of that future.

Breaking into small groups gave everyone a chance to talk.

The meetings are the latest in a series that began with Town Hall style meetings in January on the area's future and most recently featured meetings specifically considering the issue of incorporation.

The first meeting, is set for September 14th at 7:00pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church Community Meeting Room.  At that meeting the incorporation sub committee of the on Freeland Vision 2025 committee lead by Dean Enell is presenting what Dean calls, "A Short Course on Incorporation."  That meeting is being facilitated by Tim Gates of the Washington State Community Trade and Economic Development (CTED), Growth Management Services Division (GMS).  Tim has asked Gregg Dohrn of Dohrn and Associates to be that night's speaker.   According to Gates, "Greg has worked with four cities through the incorporation process so we are fortunate he has been so generous to offer his time."

A second meeting on September 20th is set for the residents of the Useless Bay Colony Homeowners association and an additional meeting is being planned for this fall before the Freeland commercial property owners and business owners.

The Freeland Vision 2025 Committee chaired by Mike Dolan was started by the Freeland Chamber and the Friends of Freeland to begin public discussions over Freeland's future.  Dolan note's that the area's population is expected to grow by 3,000 people over the next 20 years and that area residents should carefully consider if growth should be managed at the county level or at the city level.
