| Guest speaker Ken Oplinger, President of the Bellingham/Whatcom Chamber of Commerce & Industry, updated members on everything from how the 2010 Olympics may impact our region, to what we can expect from new ID rules for those crossing the border by air, sea and land. Ken currently serves as the co-chair of the BESTT | ||||||||
| Coalition (Business for Economic Security, Tourism and Trade), a bi-national coalition of business and industry concerned about the affects of implementing the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) on the Canada/US Border. He presented members with an information packet on how they can capitalize on tourism by marketing the "scenic route" to/from the games. He also suggested Whidbey Island business partner with businesses in Vancouver to attract traffic to their Whidbey location. Ken provided a list of opportunities for local businesses to capitalize on (everything from engineering to interior decoration to fireplaces to vending machines, and more) and shared how to utilize these opportunities to our advantage. | ||||||||
